2009 -- Apr -- Desert 100

On April 4th, Mike, Dan and I made the trek to Odessa for the Desert 100. The weather was fantastic: 55 degrees and sunny. There was frost on the ground in the morning, but it warmed up nicely. We did two loops of the Ironman Poker Run course which equaled about 64 miles today. Whew.

  • The main downhill. My only mishap was on this hill. Some knucklehead went over the crest and decided to stop for his friends. I came over the top and immediately had to try to change lines in the rocks. That didnt work and I fell over. Luckily the bike kept running and it was a quick recovery.

  • Mike, Dan and I got seperated for a while on the second loop, so I sat and watched the water crossing for a while. Not much interesting, as the water was only about 8 inches deep. This kid was about seven and going fast.

  • The only real spectator area was a short rocky uphill. It was a little tough. Most people crashed. Those who made it clean were either standing on the pegs or plunking up at low speed. With the Rekluse, the husky plunked up without mishap. Tahuya training pays off.
